Conversation Management:

Online Blended Interview Training Course

iKAT Limited are proud to offer a fully online blended training course based on the latest edition of 'Investigative Interviewing: The Conversation Management Approach'.

We can offer this course to any law enforcement or investigative organisation and tailor delivery to your specific needs, with pricing based on numbers and exact specifications. You can see an outline of the course below. Please get in touch with any questions or an enquiry about booking the course.

Miscarriages of justice and failed investigations attract public criticism, generate cost, and damage the reputation of the police. Poor interviewing of victims, witnesses, and suspects is a major factor in such cases due to flawed or perjured eyewitness evidence and false confessions that result. A growing body of research now shows that interviewing is a complex skill that requires professionalised training and systemised implementation into law enforcement investigations.

Conversation Management (CM) is a proven, empirically based method of interviewing that combines the core ingredients of effective investigation with the fundamental elements of successful conversation. The result is a structured approach which is effective in obtaining reliable and relevant information from any interviewee, whether resistant or cooperative.

The CM online blended interview training program blends three different components into a comprehensive learning package of knowledge and skills acquisition.

Online Learning

The theoretical content of the course is presented within 8 subject specific modules. These are created as video presentations narrated by a subject matter expert. Within each module there are several individual sessions addressing subjects within the module. There are handouts and knowledge checks to accompany each module.

Practicals

This scenario-based exercise phase converts the knowledge gained during the online modules into practicals skills through practice and feedback. Each student will conduct 1 witness interview and 1 suspect interview and will also act as interviewees for colleagues in other interviews. After each interview every student will receive written personal feedback from a subject matter expert highlighting strengths and development areas.

Webinars

The theory and practical elements of the course are supplemented by live webinars at key points in the program. These are facilitated by the course trainers, who will introduce and review the core content, answer questions, and encourage discussion.
